HEALTH CARE DELIVERY DEPARTMENTS

INTERNAL MEDICINE

The department internal medicine is concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the internal organs, disorders of all internal processes in the body, and physical complaints for which no diagnosis has yet been found.

SURGERY

This department treats injuries, tumors and infections by performing surgery. These can be common minor operations or complex operations. Polyclinic days are on Monday & Wednesday and on the other days between 14 and 15 hours. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are days set for doing operations. This department has 1 specialist and 1 doctor. Also an orthopedic surgeon from Muhumbili Orthopedic Institute is working on this department, doing orthopedic treatment.

GYNEACOLOGY & OBSTETRICS

Gynecology is concerned with organs and diseases specific to women. Our department carries out various examinations to subsequently treat a gynecological condition.
Obstetrics deals with all care related to pregnancy, delivery and childbirth. Yearly around 2500 babies are born in our department

OUT PATIENT

Out Patient Department Everyday around 180 patients visit our Outpatient Department, where they are advised and treated by our Clinical Officers. Also this department has a Dental Unit and an Eye clinic for treating patients with dental and eye problems. The hospital also runs a HIV Care and Treatment clinic and a TB-clinic

EAR, NOSE AND THROAT

Ear, nose and throat doctors (ENT doctors) are involved in, among other things, examination and treatment of nasal congestion, hoarseness, laryngitis, hearing impairment and sinus infections. The department consists of one specialist treating the patients.

PAEDAETRIC

The Paediatric department is responsible for the diagnostic process and treatment of the under 15 years old in-patients. The pediatrician does not only treat children who have a disease or condition. Children whose normal development or growth is disrupted can also be examined and treated by the pediatrician.

NICU

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is an annex ward of the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department. At this ward sick, small or premature new born babies are admitted. Due to low resources and challenges in dealing with the vulnerable babies the mortality rate is very high. We practice evidence based care as well as possible in our setting. Also we try to include mothers more in the medical parts of care.

RCH

The Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) department deals with antenatal care and prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV for under five years old. It has one daily static clinic and several mobile clinics for the nearby three villages, which are Chiwerere, Litingi and Mahiwa. The main objective of the outreach is to support the mothers in preventive medicine,vaccination, health education and advising on family planning

PHYSIOTHERAPY

The physiotherapeutic treatment is aimed at improving the condition, muscle strength or, for example, being able to (re) perform daily activities, such as getting up from a chair or climbing stairs. In addition, the physiotherapist also has an advisory role. We also treat burns in this department.

SUPPORTING DEPARTMENTS

LABORATORY

The laboratory department plays a critical role in providing timely, high quality laboratory services to all patients. The laboratory has a 4-star SLIPTA certification.

PHARMACY

The hospital features two pharmacies distributing medicines and medical supplies to both out-patients as patients who are admitted to the wards. Main Pharmacy and Raphael Pharmacy.

X-RAY

The hopsital features a X-ray department and several ultrasound machines for doing investigations.

FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING

This department plays a central role in collecting the revenue, controlling and monitoring of expenses, budgetting and organising final accounts.

ADMINISTRATION & SECRETARY

Responsible for Human Resource management, internal and external communication and other secretarial tasks.

MAINTENANCE & WASTE MANAGEMENT

The Maintenance unit has a big responsibility in maintaining and repairing (medical) equipment and estimate the needs of primary health care staff to be able to provide excellent health care delivery to the patients

SOCIAL WORK

As the latest addition to the supporting departments, the social work department is essential especially for those patients less furtunate. Also this departments is responsible organising outreaches to villages otherwise not reached by health care workers.

PROCUREMENT

This department is organising everything concerning supplying the hospital with medicines, medical supplies and other hospital supplies needed to keep the hospital running smoothly.

MEDICAL RECORDS AND STATISTICS

This department is the custodian of all patients’ records. These records contain information needed to plan, provide and evaluate the care given to the patient. From this records the departments takes and provides monthly statistics. See Facts & Figures
